Rehabbing Walls: Setting the Mood through Colors
Did you know that you can actually set the mood of a room by using the right colors? Of course you did, that’s what you do when you’re rehabbing walls. However, do you know what colors would suit a specific room? In this short guide, you will know how to use colors in giving the interior of a house a warm or cool feel.
First off, you will need a color wheel. You can borrow this from your children or buy one at a school supplies store. The six colors on one half of the wheel, starting from red to yellow green, fall under the “warm group.” The rest, composed of six other colors starting from green to red violet, forms the “cool group.”
The warm colors give out a feeling of unity. Therefore, it is advisable to use these colors when rehabbing walls of common areas such as the kitchen or the living room. The first color in the group, red, is often used in kitchens. Like other warm colors, it carries a feeling of togetherness. It is now being used as a base color for bedrooms. This is a good option if you plan to set up a master’s bedroom with a romantic theme.
A good warm color you can use for almost all interiors is yellow. Painters usually recommend using light shades of yellow for interiors because they make the room look bright and larger. You can also use brighter yellow, or one that’s close to a ripe mango, if the room has elements of natural wood. However, be wary when using sharp yellow as it could convey a feeling of deterrence. This color is used in police tapes and on road signs. Pure orange, meanwhile, is very warm. It is mostly used only as an accent color.
On the other side of the wheel, blue is probably the most popular interior paint when rehabbing walls. This color can be used virtually in any room. Like other cool colors, you get a sense of calm with blue. Lighter shades of blue make the room appear peaceful and large while darker shades are meant for a more solemn ambiance.
Meanwhile, green is a refreshing color that you can also use as base color. It is easier to decorate rooms whose walls are painted with shades of green. Notice hospitals and offices? Apart from white, they usually have shades of green in their walls.
Finally, one thing you might want to try is using violet. Although a bit unconventional, violet is being introduced as a bedroom color. It is said that it conveys a feeling of romance so this is one color you might want to consider when rehabbing walls of the master’s bedroom.
