While the real estate market has yet to regain its previous splendor, many Americans believe that there has never been a better time to buy a house than now, according to a recent survey.

The First-Time Home Buyers and Sellers study conducted by Century 21 Real Estate LLC showed that 80% of home buyers polled believe that now is the right time to buy houses as home prices are expected to go up next year. The Realogy subsidiary attributed consumers’ favorable outlook towards buying properties to declining home prices, low mortgage rates, and the tax credit programs implemented by the federal government.

“Today’s market presents a generational opportunity for home buyers and current home owners looking to leverage their market position,” Century 21 president and chief executive officer Rick Davidson said.

Although the survey results bode well for those who make money in real estate, market analysts believe that investors and realtors have yet to receive concrete reasons to celebrate. According to them, the housing market is showing signs of recovery but it could take a while before the real estate sector gets back on its feet. They added that the recovery will be slow and will remain so unless the low employment rate, restrictive lending standards, and the abundant supply of foreclosed homes are taken care of.

The Century 21 survey also provided a glimpse into what consumers think regarding the current financial status of the country. According to the poll, 40% of the public are more worried about the economy than they were a year ago.
